It is with deepest sadness that I must inform you that Mario Donnagelo passed away in his sleep on Sunday, April 11, 2010. As you all know Mario was one of the cornerstones of NISOA.  The vast amount of work he did daily for NISOA is immeasurable. However, his personal relationship and care for each member is his legacy.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to the East Stroudsburg University Alumni Association.  This information will be available in the obituary. The obituary will be published in the Allentown Morning Call on Wednesday, April 14, 2010.

Please keep Mario’s family, wife Barbara, daughters Debbie and Suzie and 4 grandchildren in your thoughts and prayers.

  1. My heart goes out to Mario’s family, and to all who cared about him. I’m proud to have known and worked with him for 25 years. Mario was very serious about his work with NISOA, but also had a sense of humor too. He truley was one of a kind, and I will never forget him.

  2. Mario will be truely missed by those that knew him in the New England Region and by the New England Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association. He has been a great leader, friend and a person that gets the job done. His work within NISOA has been outstanding and his many many responsibilities will be extremely difficult to fill.

  5. The Minnesota chapter of NISOA wishes to extend our deepest sympathies to the Donnangelo family at this extremely difficult time. Mario has always been a friend to our chapter and served NISOA with dignity and pride. I had just gotten the chance to work with Mario over the past few years and I was looking forward to finally meeting him at this years National Conference. His passing is such a great loss.

    Let it be said, his professionalism and leadership will be missed but he leaves a legacy bar none.

  8. I probably have know Mario longer than any one in NISOA, He was a true friend and a good room mate. I roomed with Mario at every camp and comvention I ever attended. I will surely miss him.

  10. O Lord, in your peace where all the saints repose give rest also to the soul of your servant Mario in a place where their is no pain , no sorrow and no suffering. As a good and Loving God forgive every sin he has committed in thought, word, and in deed; for you alone are sinless, your righteousness is everlasting and your word is truth. For your are the life, repose and resurrection of your departed servant O Christ our God and to you we give praise thanksgiving, worship and glory to the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit now and ever and til the ages of ages. Amen.

    Mario was a man of good character and honorable. I enjoyed his company and he was supportive of all referees. Unlike many in the NISOA and other officiating communities; Mario cared for the “Good of the Game” more than politics. He had a humility that we should all learn from and follow.

    When I was being wrongly attacked because of certain of my fellow assignors and officials pride and greed; Mario supported and defended me. He told me to keep doing what is right and to not worry. It was an honor working with him and learning from him. I can only aspire to contribute to the sporting, soccer and officiating communities to only a small percent of what has been done Dr. Ray Bernabei and Mario Donnangelo. Unlike many who have been inducted into the soccer hall of fame by NISOA, they both truly belong to be honored.

    We all need to learn from Mario’s HUMILITY, dedication, lack of greed, teamwork, ethics and hard work. I am honored and humbled to have known and worked with him. I thank God for him and those like him.

    May his memory be eternal!
