Ed Braun receives the Raymond E. Bernabei Honor Award from Tom Richardson (NISOA)

Eduard Braun, Chicago, was presented the NISOA Raymond E. Bernabei Honor Award on January 17, 2014 at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Annual Banquet.  The award was presented by Tom Richardson, Associate Director for Awards and Membership.

Ed joined NISOA in 1969 and since then has officiated over 100 national college playoff games including NCAA Division I finals in 1981.  In 1980, Ed officiated the NAIA championship game and other post season assignments.  At the high school level Ed officiated state finals in 1972, 1974, 1980,1984 and 1990.

Ed is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions.  He has received appreciation awards from both the NISOA and NAIA.   Other awards include:

  • 1998 NISOA Life Member
  • 2002 NISOA Recognition Award
  • 2005 NISOA National Soccer Hall of Fame
  • 2009 Dick Giebner Meritorious Service Award
  • Greater Chicago Chapter Lifetime Member

Ed is a local assignor in the Chicago area and serves as the NISOA Liaison to the NAIA Men’s National Tournament.  He also served as a regional coordinator of officials for the NCAA post season assigning. Ed is married to his wife Anna for 50 years and has two children and 3 grandchildren.
